About Us
Who Are We?
Get to Know Uproar Utah
UpRoar Utah’s successful opposition to a Salt Lake City detention center is not the end of our fight. We are opposed to the current administration’s goals and strategies regarding immigrants. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests and detention practices target non-criminals, as indicated by their own numbers indicating 71% are non-criminals.
Uproar Utah was initially organized in opposition to the renovation of a Salt Lake City warehouse for housing detained immigrants. Uproar continues to oppose detention of immigrants who have not committed a crime, while shifting our focus to other issues of concern. We remain focused on detention centers in other states.
We want to unite with other grassroots efforts like Salt Lake Indivisible, Utah Values Coalition, Utah Citizens’ Counsel, and multiple faith groups to create a sustained, powerful opposition to the current administration's goals and strategies regarding immigrants.

Values
Our work is grounded in our values.
Dignity
Immigrants should be treated humanely and with dignity. They should be kept safe, provided with adequate healthcare and nutrition, and given access to families and attorneys.
Due Process
Due process is guaranteed in the Bill of Rights to anyone living in the United States. The Fifth Amendment states that the federal government cannot deprive any person of “life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.”
Unity
Fathers and mothers should not be taken from their children; communities must come together to protect families.
Defense
Being an undocumented immigrant is not a criminal offense; it is a civil offense. Detainees must be given access to lawyers. When the government does not follow the law, legal action must be taken to require them to do so.
Vision
We envision a Utah where every neighbor is safe, where our state’s commitment to family is extended to all people, and where our community stands united against the shadow of mass detention to ensure a future of dignity and belonging.
In a democracy, when government fails to address the needs of its citizens, the people must step up and do the best they can to bring attention to problems and to be part of the solution. Our politicians are failing to act adequately or coherently. Uproar Utah hopes to get their attention as we explore how best to address the future of immigration policy in the United States.
